Become a volunteer and take an active role in the fight against ocean plastic pollution

Join one or more of our six volunteer missions and become a Water Guardian, workshop facilitator, or local ambassador for our programs. Six forms of engagement, simple, accessible, and impactful, are available to you, on board, on the quay, or from home.

1. Organize a screening of Plastic Odyssey documentary films

Raise awareness in your community by organizing a public screening of Plastic Odyssey documentary films, followed by a discussion. This easy-to-implement action immediately builds collective awareness: the film clearly shows the reality of plastic pollution, and the discussion then invites everyone to react and propose solutions. You become a local rallying point, bringing together citizens, students, or colleagues who leave feeling more motivated to take action in turn.

Mission details

Mission steps:

Choose a venue and a date

and secure the necessary authorization: community hall, school, non-profit cinema, etc.

Promote the event

within your community: posters, social media, mailings.

Set up the screening

arrange the film and the equipment: projector, screen, etc.

Run the session

welcome the audience and introduce the documentary film.

Facilitate the discussion

after the screening: facilitate the discussion using the discussion guide provided.

Close the session

with a collective call to action (for example, an invitation to join a future mission or to sign a local pledge).

Plastic Odyssey provides:

  • A viewing or download link to high-quality documentary films, ready to use.
  • A discussion guide (key questions, visual materials) to facilitate the discussion.
  • Visual assets and media kits (posters) to support promotion.
  • Remote support: guidance from the team, shared experiences, and feedback from other volunteers.

2. Bring a school on board the Plastic Odyssey adventure

Invite a school and its students to join the Plastic Odyssey adventure and work together to create a “plastic-free zone to protect,” co-managed by the students and the Plastic Odyssey crew. This project empowers students and sparks their desire to learn by connecting them directly with the Plastic Odyssey explorers and giving them the tools to take action in their own communities.

Mission details

Mission steps:

Meet with the school team

to present the concept (school leadership, teachers) and secure approval.

Select the area

to be transformed (e.g. playground, school garden).

Provide the educational kit

to the class.

Monitor progress

by regularly checking in with the class.

Plastic Odyssey provides:

  • A comprehensive educational kit: step-by-step worksheets to guide classroom activities, worksheets for students to complete, concept sheets, and photographs from the Plastic Odyssey expedition.
  • Guidance and support (exchanges with the team that developed the kit, remote assistance) to ensure the success of your project.

3. Organize a Solutions Mural on plastic pollution

Facilitate a creative, collaborative workshop that brings together a small group (students, colleagues, neighbors). Using the Solutions Mural kit on plastic pollution (a collaborative educational game), you help participants connect the causes and consequences of plastic pollution, then imagine concrete solutions. This engaging format gets everyone involved right away: each person contributes to the solutions puzzle and leaves with a clear understanding of the actions that can be taken at the local level.

Mission details

Mission steps:

Get trained

in facilitating the Solutions Mural (online or in person) to understand the rules of the game.

Find a venue and bring a group together

of 5–20 interested participants: school, workplace, association.

Set up the materials

white paper table covering, illustrated thematic cards (provided).

Guide the process

in three phases: collective mapping of a plastic’s life cycle, building the “wall of consequences,” and discovering the mosaic of concrete solutions.

Facilitate the discussion

encourage everyone to share their perspectives and record action ideas.

Conclude with an action plan

list a few concrete initiatives that the group can implement locally.

Plastic Odyssey provides:

  • The “Plastic Solutions Mural” kit: illustrated cards, posters, and game rules.
  • A detailed facilitation manual and a training video resource.
  • On-demand support (Plastic Odyssey team available for advice).

4. Organize a local micro-expedition

Bring the spirit of exploration to your community! A micro-expedition brings together a small group (friends, neighbors, colleagues) to clean up a specific site: a beach, river, forest, or polluted neighborhood. The objective is to remove as much plastic as possible, identify sources of pollution, and propose local solutions (collection points, community recycling, waste inventories). This action has an immediate and visible impact: the site becomes cleaner again, and you can clearly measure the amount of waste removed, demonstrating the effectiveness of citizen engagement.

Mission details

Mission steps:

Select a polluted site

near your home or identified by the community.

Form a team

of volunteers (friends, family, community members) and set a date.

Prepare the expedition

provide bags, gloves, grabbers, and scales to weigh the waste.

Carry out the clean-up on site

systematically collect plastic waste (and other debris) and sort it on site.

Document the results

record the types and quantities of plastic collected, and take before-and-after photos.

Share the results

post on social media, inform local media, and encourage other groups to replicate the action.

Plastic Odyssey provides:

  • A methodological guide (checklist) to plan the expedition safely.
  • Field data sheets to record waste (paper and digital formats).
  • Communication materials (visual assets, press release templates) to showcase the operation.
  • Contacts with local stakeholders (local authorities, recycling associations) to facilitate post-event collection and recycling.

5. Get involved at a stopover of the France Tour 2026

Take part in the Plastic Odyssey France Tour 2026! As a local volunteer, you help organize the vessel’s stopovers in your region: talks, workshops, and public events. You become an ambassador for the expedition among local stakeholders (elected officials, schools, associations). Your commitment translates directly into a successful stopover: better known to the public, driven by concrete actions, and rich in meaningful encounters. It is an opportunity to build lasting collective momentum in your community.

Mission details

Mission steps:

View the stopover schedule

and select the one closest to you.

Get in touch

with the organizing team (or local associations) to offer your support.

Co-organize events

logistical support, booth facilitation, preparation of workshops or roundtable discussions.

Promote the stopover

through social media outreach, posters, and local press contacts.

Welcome the public

on the day: guide visitors, explain the program, and facilitate activities.

Gather participant feedback

and suggest ideas for the next stopover.

Plastic Odyssey provides:

  • A complete stopover toolkit: sample program, workshop sheets, signage, flags, and more.
  • A communication kit (logos, copy, visual assets) in the colors of the France 2026 expedition.
  • A local Plastic Odyssey point of contact to coordinate operations and provide support when needed.
  • Ready-to-use materials (presentations, awareness-raising games) to animate the stands.

6. Bring the Plastic Odyssey exhibition to your location (Coming soon)

Organize the arrival of the Plastic Odyssey traveling exhibition in your city. By hosting this eco-designed exhibition in your city (museum, cultural center, campus, festival), you offer a meaningful and human experience to those around you: traveling in the footsteps of our stopovers around the world, experiencing daily life on board a vessel striving to reduce its waste, and discovering the solutions, stories, and tools we bring back from all corners of the globe.

Mission details

Mission steps:

Find a host venue

museum, cultural venue, library, festival, school, city hall…

Plan the installation

agree on a timeline: from a few days to several weeks.

Receive the exhibition kit

from Plastic Odyssey: panels, totems, lightweight display furniture.

Set up the exhibition

according to the provided layout: install the educational panels and interactive displays (no specific skills required—the exhibition is turnkey).

Bring the space to life

organize guided tours, engage in discussions with visitors, and host on-site creative workshops.

Dismantle and return the exhibition

at the end of the hosting period, or plan its next stop in another city.

Plastic Odyssey provides:

  • The complete exhibition kit (explanatory panels, videos, 3D objects).
  • A detailed installation manual and logistical support (transport, scheduling).
  • Promotional materials (posters, press releases, social media posts) to announce the exhibition.
